Geotechnical Engineering

Geotechnical investigations with boreholes and test pits to determine the subsurface conditions at the start of any project, and provide soil, rock and ground water engineering advice appropriate for the proposed works.

Construction Inspection

On-site inspections are integral for the quality and performance of built structures. These inspections include compaction for backfill, aggregates and asphalt, foundation subgrade & reinforcing steel reviews, concrete quality, etc.

Laboratory Testing

Testing of construction materials such as soils, aggregates, concrete and asphalt. These tests ensure that the right materials are being used for the right purposes on site.

Who We Are

Our Mission

Central Earth Engineering’s mission is three-fold:

  1. Provide a fair price for high quality engineering services.
  2. Maintain quick, open and honest communication.
  3. Commit to providing timely services, and meeting deadlines.
The Company

Central Earth Engineering was founded in 2017 to provide geotechnical and construction materials testing and inspection services. Central Earth Engineering is located in Barrie, in the heart of Simcoe County.

Meet the Team

Alexander Winkelmann, P.Eng.

President, Geotechnical Engineer

Mr. Winkelmann is a licensed professional engineer, with over 10 years of experience in geotechnical engineering in Southern and Central Ontario. After graduating from Queen’s University with a bachelor’s degree in geological engineering, Mr. Winkelmann immediately joined the private consulting field and has not looked back since.

What differentiates Mr. Winkelmann is that he oversees both the geotechnical and materials testing aspects of a project, not just one or another. That means there is always one point of contact, for both the routine day to day parts of a project, and also when more in depth aspects need to be looked at. He knows that to provide good service to his clients, that responding quickly and honestly, and providing good value (the right cost for the right quality), is the cornerstone of being the best engineer possible.

With over 10 years experience in Central Ontario working in the inspection and testing field Mr. Plouffe has an in-depth knowledge of the requirements regarding testing and inspection typically required during project construction. Mr. Plouffe has been involved in providing inspection and testing services for large and small scale projects for a variety of uses. Examples include site earthworks (engineered fill), site servicing, concrete sampling and testing, reinforcing steel inspections, foundation inspections, building envelope inspections as well as many of the laboratory tasks required.
